Intro to The Aesthetics of the Oppressed
This active, hands-on workshop will draw from the theoretical and practical frameworks of Augusto Boal's Aesthetics of the Oppressed, a body of creative work that aims to dismantle the oppressive precedent of coercion and marginalization and make space to redefine aesthetic perception, critical thinking, self-expression, as well as what it means to be a global citizen and to embody a collective reality. Participants will leave this workshop with a basic understanding of this body of work as well as with concrete tools and activities that could be taken to other diverse populations to continue this work.
